FAQS

  • How much water do you use?

This depends on what we find when we access your water tank. Generally, we use about 10% or 20cm of your water when cleaning a standard 30,000L house tank.

    Do you clean the sides?

Our Basic Vacuum and Premium Vacuum and Filter services remove bottom sediments via vacuum and neutralise side wall pathogens with sanitiser. Our Executive Drain and Scrub, takes it further by washing and neutralising the side walls.

    Do you enter the tank?

How often should I clean my tank?

Our Basic Vacuum and Premium Vacuum and Filter  is performed from outside the tank, which keeps the process safe and non-invasive. However, our team is qualified under the Unit Standard 25510 in the event that Executive Drain and Scrub is required.

Tanks should be inspected annually. As a general rule of thumb, to maintain a healthy tank and water, a tank clean every 2–3 years is recommended, greatly depending on your surrounding area.

    What is an off filter?

Water filters have a life expectancy. When this goes over, they can start growing bacteria and any contaminants they have caught start to leech back, but in a concentrated form, thus becoming more of a health risk.

  • What if my water is discoloured from leaf tannins?

Leaf tannins can discolour your water. Our sanitisation makes the water safe, but the colour will remain until diluted by further rain. Alternatively, we could perform our Executive Service in which case the water would be replaced.

What if my water tank has clay/dirt/groundwater in suspension?

In these situations, we recommend emptying the tank and doing a full clean before refilling. Alternatively, we can add a flocculating agent to settle the sediments. Call us and we’ll advise on-site what’s best.

  • Some of my family members have skin issues - does cleaning my tank help?

We get asked this question a lot. Medical advice indicates keeping your tank and water clean can resolve skin issues. Keeping your tank and water clear of common pathogens will resolve any skin issues caused by the tank water. Additionally, installing filtration greatly helps.

I use rain water, isn’t it pure and safe to drink?

Problems can occur in methods of transferring your water from your roof into your storage tank. Any faecal matter entering the water from birds, possums or rats has E.coli present. Giardia and Cryptosporidium can also enter your tank in the same way. Ultra Violet (UV) is the most effective sterilisation method to protect your family.

Is filtered water or bottled water better?

There are minimal regulations or means of ensuring water bottle quality. In contrast, the home water treatment industry is very heavily regulated. Manufacturers are required to supply data sheets demonstrating the product's ability to remove contaminants.

  • What regular pathogen treatments do you recommend for water tanks?

We offer tank sanitisation treatments including including hydrogen-peroxide dosing and fogging which can be added to any clean or inbetween. We’ll advise what’s best for your setup.

  • Where are you based?

We have multiple bases in the North Island of New Zealand and operate across rural and residential areas nationwide.

    What happens to the wastewater/sludge?

We discharge wastewater away from the tank to a suitable area, such as paddocks or gardens. If you're in town, we'll discuss disposal options with you.

How do I know what size my tank is?

Most common concrete and plastic household water tanks range between 25,000 and 30,000 litres. We can generally advise the size of your tank from a photo or use an online tank volume calculator.

  • How do I know if my tank needs cleaning?

If your water smells off (particularly hot water), tastes off, maybe you've had an upset tummy or skin irritation, your water tank has visible sediment depth, or you haven’t cleaned the tank in 2–5 years, it’s time to book a clean.

    Do you clean septic tanks?

No, we do not clean septic or blackwater tanks. We clean garden tanks, fire tanks, farm tanks, detention tanks and retention tanks. Basically any tank with fresh water.
